On-Demand Course: An Interoception-Based Approach for Supporting Traumatized Learners
$79.00 USD
Many times, interoception is a missing consideration when trying to understand and support the needs of traumatized learners. As we emerge from a deadly pandemic, it becomes more important than ever before to understand the impact that trauma has on the interoceptive system and what can be done to nurture the interoceptive awareness that is needed for self-regulation and positive mental health.

Description
This On-Demand Course Includes:
- 2-hours instruction with Kelly
- 6-months (180 days) unlimited access to the course
- Access to 2 exclusive downloadable resources
- Personalized certificate of completion
What you’ll learn:
- What the most current literature says about the impact of trauma on the interoceptive system
- How interoception underlies many of the common experiences of traumatized learners including chronic dysregulation, self-harm, addictions, anxiety/depression, panic attacks, eating disorders, chronic pain and somatic symptoms
- What are interoceptive predictions and how trauma impacts these stored predictions about how the world makes our bodies feel
- How interoception develops in infancy and can be derailed by early life trauma
- How Interoceptive Awareness provides the neurological foundation for self-regulation and how this can be affected by trauma
- Why many of the currently used methods of nurturing self-regulation in traumatized learners are a mismatch for their current neurology (and learn what you can do instead)
- An Interoception-Based Approach for supporting learners with a history of trauma. This sequential approach contains 3 levels:
- Level 1: Co-Regulation of Implicit Interoception: Helping a learner to feel safe and regulated in order to have the attentional resources to turn their attention within
- Level 2: Nurturing of Explicit Interoception: Inviting a learner to explore and connect with personal body signals and emotions in a carefully presented manner
- Level 3: Action-Based Interoception: Assisting the learner to explore and connect with personal feel-good activities and begin to use them proactively as well as ‘in the moment’
- The approach is applicable to learners of a variety of ages, backgrounds, diagnoses & learning styles
- Please note: this course assumes that each attendee has prior knowledge of trauma and trauma-informed care. It is not intended to be a course on trauma education, rather a course focused on interoception learning surrounding the topic of trauma.
Course Description:
Many times, interoception is a missing consideration when trying to understand and support the needs of traumatized learners. This results in many children and adults being misunderstood and many underlying needs overlooked. As we emerge from a deadly pandemic, it becomes more important than ever before to understand the impact that trauma has on the interoceptive system and what can be done to nurture the interoceptive awareness that is needed for self-regulation and positive mental health.
This course will provide attendees with an overview of what the most current literature says about the impact of trauma on the interoceptive system including how interoception underlies many common experiences including chronic dysregulation, self-harm, addictions, anxiety/depression, panic attacks, eating disorders, chronic pain and somatic symptoms. Interoceptive Awareness, which provides the neurological foundation for self-regulation, develops in infancy, and can be derailed by early life or acute traumas. During this course, registrants will be encouraged to think about the connection between interoception and self-regulation and given this evidence consider why currently used self-regulation programs are a mismatch for the current neurology of many learners. Using interoception-based supports are critical, however it can be confusing to know where to start’ what strategy to use and how to adapt each strategy in order to meet the needs of a variety of learners. This live online course will provide an overview of an Interoception-Based Approach for supporting learners with a history of trauma.
If you are ready to expand your knowledge regarding the impact that trauma can have on the interoceptive system and what you can do to nurture the interoception growth in the learners you serve, register today. We look forward to seeing you in the course!

Featured Review:
Jo P This has been the most beneficial course I have ever taken. If you are supporting clients with a history of trauma you must know about interoception—and you want to know about interoception from Kelly. This course gave me so many ‘aha’ moments. The Interoception-Based Approach is so easy to implement, and it helps me to understand how to meet each of my client’s where they are at interoceptively. Game changer!!!!
