If reward charts, scripts, or breathing exercises aren’t helping your learners regulate their emotions and needs—you’re not alone.
I’ve been there. And I discovered the missing piece: interoception, the eighth sensory system. When people can understand their unique internal body signals—like heart rate, muscle tension, full bladder, or breathing patterns—they can begin to truly understand and manage their needs and emotions such as anxiety, frustration, hunger, thirst and toileting function.
That’s why I created The Interoception Curriculum®. This practical, evidence-based program helps learners build interoceptive awareness and develop meaningful, body-first self-regulation skills.

Take a Peek Inside the Curriculum!
Why These Interoception Resources Work
Traditional strategies often tell learners what to do when they feel anxious, frustrated, or overwhelmed. But for people with interoceptive differences—like many autistics, ADHDers, and people with trauma, anxiety disorders, and sensory processing disorder—that’s not enough.
This curriculum helps learners notice, understand and respond to their internal signals so they can make mindful, empowered choices in the present moment that work for their unique bodily experience. That’s where real regulation begins.
But First…Let Me Introduce Myself
Hi there—I’m Kelly Mahler, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA. I’ve been an occupational therapist for over 23 years, working with amazing kids and adults to support their emotional and sensory well-being. I earned my doctorate from Misericordia University, and I now teach as adjunct faculty at both Misericordia and Elizabethtown College.
Along the way, I’ve been lucky to receive a few awards (like the AOTA Emerging and Innovative Practice Award and a Mom’s Choice Gold Medal), but what I’m most proud of is co-leading research on interoception, self-regulation, trauma, and autism—and getting to share that work with people all over the world. I’ve created 10 resources so far, and my hope is always the same: to make your work a little easier and your impact even bigger.
You’ve Finally Found Something that Actually Works
Don’t just take it from me—here’s what others are saying about their experience with The Interoception Curriculum®:
“Bravo, Kelly Mahler! Kelly has created an invaluable resource for professionals working in the fields impacted by Interoception. If this is you, this will be a part of your main tool kit. Her information is presented in an easy-to-follow curriculum that also allows you to modify it for the diverse population that we work with. Following this curriculum has greatly influenced my practice as an Occupational Therapist and is positively impacting the lives of my clients. Thank you, Kelly, for sharing your expertise with the world!”
—Anna Vander Haeghe, BScOT, Pediatric Occupational Therapist
“As a young adult with autism I have found Kelly’s curriculum to be a game changer. It has helped me improve my own interoception skills and learn more about my body and emotions. This has led to me being better able to tell people how I feel as well as strategies to support my own regulation needs. This curriculum is filled with tips and concrete strategies and provides people with the tools needed to support interoception and self-regulation.”
—Chloe Rothschild, individual with autism, advocate, speaker
